We all went to a 4th birthday party for one of Ryan's classmates yesterday, and they had a moonwalk (i.e. bouncy castle). Ryan has always been very cautious about stuff like that, and never really enjoyed jumping in one until he was already 3. He was enjoying this one, but meanwhile, Kyle was looking in from the outside, bouncing up and down in my arms, grinning, & whining to get in. There weren't many kids (and all were pretty small) so Mark put him just inside by the door and was holding onto him bouncing him in it, and Kyle was SO happy. But it wasn't enough for him...he lunged all the way in and just had the greatest time crawling all over it and trying to bounce. Then a whole bunch more kids came & got in it, so there were about 10 bigger kids & Kyle, & he was totally unfazed. He thought it was GREAT, and just loved it when bigger kids (maybe 5 or 6 year olds) would come jump big on either side of him so that he got heavily bounced. Ryan was in there, too, and having fun, but Kyle was probably having even more fun. I'm sure in 6 months to a year he'll be rushing in them to make huge jumps himself! We really wished we'd had the video camera along or at least the still camera to capture his joy. At the end of the party, one of the teenage helpers also took him down this big bouncy slide they had, and he was just thrilled! Ryan also loved the bouncy slide, probably more than he liked the moonwalk. Ryan also ate his first cotton candy, and part of a hot dog with green ketchup, which I hope I never have to see again! ;-) Ryan's favorite part was the pinata, though, since he's a candy junkie!
Even with such a busy day--after the party, Mark took a walk with Kyle (while Ryan napped), and we all went to Jason's Deli for dinner, where Kyle didn't even fuss--Kyle didn't nap much, and then stayed up much longer than usual before he got tired. He's usually struggling by 6:30 pm and out by 7:30, but he was happy & active until around 9 pm, so we let him stay up. Then he slept straight through from 9:15 pm to 5:45 am, which may not seem so great for a 13-month-old but was his longest stretch EVER so we were very happy! Better yet, he then went back to sleep, which is very unusual for him at that time of day, and slept from 6 to 8. So we finally got a decent night's sleep! Hooray!
