Ryan has known his alphabet since 21 months old and has known all the lower case letters for probably 6 months, but it still surprised me when he just started pointing out letters on his alphabet placemat and telling me which were "upper case" and which were "lower case"! He loves letters and words, and always has, from the time he was 2 months old and would grin and laugh at the letters on his "Alphabet Pooh" crib bumpers! He has also known about 10 colors and 8 or 10 shapes for as long as I can remember...probably since before age 2. He even knows hexagon! We are still working on counting higher than 12, but to our amazement he seems to grasp some simple math concepts already. We are not pushy flash card parents either--he just loves to learn and has a great memory. He can also read 3 words wherever he sees them: Ryan, Kyle, and dog. He will guess on a few others but doesn't usually get them right! But last night he did surprise us by pointing to the brand name Graco on our baby swing and saying, "That word is on the monitor." We also have a Graco baby monitor, and even though Ryan didn't know what the word said, he recognized it as the same word! (Of course, like any kid in his generation, he recognizes plenty of brand name logos and signs, knowing that Daddy has "Nike shoes" and that Mommy likes to eat at Taco Bell and drink Dr Pepper!)
