Kyle is now 6 and a half! We celebrate half-birthdays since his real birthday is only 3 weeks from Christmas. Nothing major, just a few small gifts (like a small Lego set, a spy watch, and the Blendy Pens he's been wanting forever) and usually a half a cake. I usually buy a one-layer cake or something, but this year Kyle got it into his head that I was going to make a cake for him, so I gave in and let him help me make a full cake at home. Here is a pic from our celebration:

He just lost his second tooth last week, he's reading quite well (he doesn't like to read that much, but we've instituted a one-hour reading time before bedtime for the summer, which allows them to stay up later), and he still loves art. He is also still a great big brother to Blake, very loving and helpful. And he's always been a joker, but now his jokes and humor can be quite funny! He seems to have a funny quip or a relevant TV or movie quote for every occasion.

Lately he's been cracking us up by talking like Yoda (he's saying "Read you will," from the front of his Star Wars book, and then, "A Jedi master we need"):

Meanwhile, Blake is 5.5 months old now, but thinks he is older! He is growing up too fast! He has been fairly mobile for a while now, rolling and twisting all over, flopping around, rocking on his hands & knees, etc., and he is basically crawling as of this week! He doesn't just crawl crawl crawl across the floor consistently, it's more like crawl-crawl-flop-wriggle-army crawl, but he can get where he wants to go and he does do some traditional crawling for a bit before flopping on his belly. He also gets up on his hands and feet like this and takes steps!

He is so strong!! He can sit up for a while when put in a sitting position, and more impressive to me, he has been able to get almost into a sitting position on his own for several weeks now. He gets like this from lying down all the time, but hasn't figured out yet how to sit up straight instead of reclining on one arm:

He is doing things the other boys didn't do until months later, and I don't think he ever stops wiggling unless he is asleep, if even then! He's also obsessed with toys or whatever he can get and always wants something to hold--a computer mouse, a magazine, Mark's beard, whatever he can grab, so nothing is safe! So, we still didn't get a calm one, but at least he is generally good-natured, and is more portable than his older brothers were. He's almost always good in public and is usually willing to adapt to our schedules, or lack of them. Milk is still providing nearly all of his nutrition, but he has solid foods on occasion (including bits of whatever we're eating when it's not a choking hazard, like soups and sauces) and seems to eat pretty well.
