Ryan is 5 years old now, & Kyle is 2½. Both are in a great part-time preschool program. Ryan is reading now, & has a knack for math. He spends a lot of time building Lego robots & Bionicles, doing mazes & workbooks, and inventing things. He loves the Magic School Bus TV show & books. Kyle does a lot of singing & dancing, is a natural comedian, and knows that K-Y-L-E spells Kyle! (He thinks all K's he sees are for him!) He loves babies & people in general. Both kids are very active & curious, both enjoy drawing with chalk & with MagnaDoodles, and they adore playing in sand and mud, as our poor carpet can attest to! They fight all the time, but also play wonderfully together much of the time, & seem to be best friends.
Today out of the blue, Kyle said, "Happiness is a baby!" He also fell asleep in the van today & eventually sang the entire song, "This is the way we wash our hands, wash our hands, wash our hands, this is the way we wash our hands early in the morning" in his sleep! Last night he made up an odd little song that went, "Yellow, yellow, yellow, doesn't work for you!" Hmmm... He knows the words to many songs & sings them quite well. He also talks very well. A plumber fixing a gas leak (eek!) we had last week told us Kyle sounded like a 3 or 4-year-old. I think he's determined to keep up with his big brother!
The other day Ryan transformed our bedroom into a "museum." It had some sort of paper towel exhibit, and also a "doll pit" to jump in! The latter was like a ball pit that kids play in, except it was made up of stuffed animals! Too funny.... He has been drawing some really neat pictures, including an alligator & a castle, & he can copy other drawings fairly well. He really likes connecting all the lines and parts of his pictures, though, & likes symmetrical designs & drawing unusual imaginary machines!
Ryan was "person of the week" at school last week, and got to bring the classroom mascot, Molly Monkey, home for the week. We made a little book about what Molly did with us, which he read to his class when he did Show & Tell that Friday. Here's a pic of Molly's visit with us:
