Kyle had his 2-year check-up this morning. They weighed him at 26 pounds and measured him at 35.75 inches long, putting him in the 30th percentile for weight & 80th for height. I was surprised on both counts because I thought he was both heavier (maybe 27 lbs.) & quite a bit shorter (like 33.5 or 34"). Everything else seemed fine, and Kyle didn't mind the exam until the dr started poking around in his ear. Even then, he started laughing through his tears when she hit his knee with the knee hammer! Because he doesn't eat much but does drink a lot of milk, the dr ordered an anemia test for him, which meant a dreaded finger stick to draw blood. He was actually amazingly calm during it--he cried out once, but then Mark and the woman drawing the blood managed to convince him the whole process was interesting, and he got curious to watch closely instead of crying more.

In the evening, both kids got haircuts. We went to a kids' salon where Kyle got to sit in a toy car and Ryan in a fire truck, and they could watch videos during the cuts, but even Barney couldn't calm Kyle down for long. He screamed through most of the haircut, even with me holding his hand. It seemed a bit ironic that he barely whimpered while having his blood drawn but screamed & cried through a haircut! The hairdresser pointed out that at least he stayed still and didn't try to get away, which apparently some of the kids do. And Barney did help. Also, when the haircut was over, the stickers they gave and the toy trains in the lobby cheered him up quickly!

At bedtime, both kids were acting silly. Kyle kept busy passing out pretend candy, then made himself fall into Ryan's toybox over and over while Mark read a long bedtime story to Ryan. He said the toybox was a bed and told us all night-night. When Ryan's story was done, Ryan got into the toybox and then popped out, saying it was a TV, and did a commercial for a teddy bear (we learned it's fluffy, and it's good to use if someone else has your usual stuffed toy). Kyle had to get in on that one, too, joining Ryan in the toybox and finding another teddy bear inside to offer us.
