Ryan is a published author at the age of 3! His first story, "We Want To Buy Groceries," was published this week in Austintatious Tales, the newsletter for the Austin chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, along with his photo and byline. Pretty impressive! No payment or royalties, though...darn!

Meanwhile, he has learned to stand on his head with his feet against a wall, and is pretty excited about that. He's also done his first somersaults this week.

The picture is fitting because this week has been SO up and down. Mark has been working like crazy lately, bringing work home and working on it until after midnight more days than not. Ryan was wonderful yesterday but has been a terror today--though he also ended up putting himself to a nap today, so I guess he realized he wasn't up to par! Kyle has had some bad moments, and is probably teething, but he's also been bursting with joy much of the time. 14 months is SUCH a cute age!! He is walking everywhere now--or rather, toddling, but toddling quickly! Climbing, too. He learned to put Lego Duplo blocks together into small columns last week...I guess you can't help but learn Lego stuff in this house! He also loves books lately. Ryan has also been very interested in a children's encylopedia lately, and in learning about parts of the body (yesterday he actually said, sadly, when coughing, "my epiglottis is broken!"). He also learned the word "symmetrical" this week and understood it--making symmetrical Lego structures for a while afterwards. He has been making the most amazing Lego structures lately! He's also been watching old Schoolhouse Rock videos.

Oh, something interesting happened to ME, too! I got a CD in the mail from Half-Price Books. They published a children's poem of mine in their 7th annual Say Good Night to Illiteracy bedtime stories book last year, and now 3 stories from the book are coming out on a CD by singer/songwriter Sara Hickman...including mine! I am guessing it will be sold in their stores as a fundraiser for their Half-Pint Libraries program, in which they donate books to children's hospitals, community centers, etc. (Or maybe given away--I'm not sure.) Anyway, she sings several children's songs on the CD and also reads these 3 stories. It was so cool to hear her read my poem on the CD!
