Kyle was a guinea pig yesterday! I took him to the Children's Research Laboratory at the University of Texas to to be part of a lab experiment. He just had to sit on my lap in a darkened room and watch some shapes on a TV screen. They were going to track his eye movements on video to see how long he paid attention to each thing. It only took a few minutes (except for the 1-hour+ round-trip!) and Kyle did great, even though he had just woken up from napping in the van--he was cheerful all the way up until we left, when he screamed nearly all the way home! He got a cute t-shirt for his efforts, that says "Graduate of Children's Research Lab" with the university logo. It was a little embarrassing, though--they had to fill out a form about him before we started, and the guy told me I was the first person whose baby had a bouncy seat, an Exersaucer, a high chair, a Johnny Jump-Up, AND a swing! Hey, my kid is bored easily... At least he didn't stare mindlessly at the screen the whole time, nor did he refuse to look at it at all, so I think he did admirably! :-) It was nice that Mark was staying home to wait for the cable repair guy, so I didn't have to take Ryan along. They did have toys for older kids in the waiting room, but they would have had to find a student to watch him.
And another major bit of news here...we bought a 1999 Mazda Protegé this weekend to replace the Saturn. The color is "sandalwood metallic," and the entire effect is so bland that the only place the car would stand out is at a blandness convention. But at least it should be reliable....
The other night Ryan was playing with the hose in the backyard, and Mark asked him not to spray the patio, because one night he ended up spraying into the kitchen doing that. Ryan then proceeded to take a small cup, fill it with the hose, and carry it to the patio where he dumped it out. He then repeated the process...about 50 times! He said he was "making a beanstalk." Watering it, I guess?
